Abstract: Implementing urban renewal on a district scale constitutes a pivotal component of China's initiative to advance urban renewal with high quality. This paper identifies three core values of district-scale research for urban renewal: resolving the spatial challenges caused by fragmentation, establishing a collaborative governance platform for multi-stakeholder and cross-departmental coordination, and creating an enabling environment for path innovation. Drawing on the practical case of the area along Zhushan Road in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, it proposes key methodological principles for district renewal planning: guiding urban spatial optimization with distinctive local spatial structures, safeguarding public interests through overall coordination and consultation, and stimulating renewal willingness via innovative district-level policies. Furthermore, based on the logic of hierarchical collaborative formulation and full-process dynamic maintenance, this study establishes an integrated coordination mechanism linking district strategic planning and detailed planning units.
