Construction of Ecological Security Pattern Under the Background of Watershed Comprehensive Management: A Case Study of Shishou City, Hubei Province

Abstract: The construction of an ecological security pattern is a critical foundation for realizing regional ecological security. This paper takes Shishou City, Hubei Province-a region with prominent ecological value-as the study area. Following the classic ecological security pattern paradigm of 'source identification-resistance surface construction-corridor extraction', it innovatively couples the MSPA model, ecological conservation importance evaluation and landscape connectivity importance analysis to accurately identify ecological sources. The study modifies the landscape resistance surface construction model by incorporating the 'five security baselines' specified in the watershed comprehensive management and coordinated development plan, then extracts and hierarchizes ecological corridors, identifies multi-type ecological strategic points via the MCR model and circuit theory, and finally optimizes the ecological security pattern of Shishou City. The results indicate that watershed management units are highly coupled with the ecological network. Based on the analysis of watershed units and ecological networks, coordinated and differentiated ecological conservation and management measures are proposed, which provides spatial guidance for strengthening urban ecological environmental protection and safeguarding regional ecological security. This study innovatively integrates the bottom-line requirements of watershed comprehensive management into ecological security pattern construction techniques, to fill the gap of insufficient coupling between ecological processes and human development in traditional paradigms.
