Abstract:
Against the backdrop of China's urbanization shifting from large-scale incremental expansion to stock-based development, urban renewal has gradually become a key path to drive urban iteration and improve urban quality. In the process of urban development and construction, the organization of major events often serves as a crucial opportunity to enhance the urban built environment. The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, as a globally renowned large-scale sports event, provided the small city of Chongli with a chance to reshape its urban interface and upgrade its image. Taking the facade improvement practice at key nodes in the main urban area of Chongli, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province as the research object, this paper starts from the logic of urban renewal driven by major events, systematically sorts out the practical needs, overall design strategies and implementation paths of the project, extracts the universal paths and mechanisms for the overall enhancement of facades at key urban nodes within a short cycle under the opportunity of major events, and explores renewal methods for old urban areas of small cities that balance overall coordination and diversified expression. It is expected to provide useful references for similar renewal and renovation projects.
