Abstract:
Throughout the prolonged evolution of constructing and developing traditional village settlements, an architectural acumen uniquely suited to geographic topography, climate patterns, and socio-economic factors has emerged, constituting a crucial aspect in ensuring sustainable preservation and advancement. However, within the current context of China, there exists no structured or comprehensive safeguarding mechanism for these heritage sites, which remains limited to the protection of tangible and intangible assets. This investigation delves into every aspect, encompassing site selection processes, as well as construction and developmental stages within these settlements, ultimately delineating five distinct evaluative perspectives pertaining to such locales. Subsequently, an extensive assessment across 141 such communities was conducted, leading to the identification of characteristic traits specific to various geographic and cultural clusters through on-site surveys coupled with literary scrutiny. This thereby established a universally applicable framework for defining comprehensive yet non-repetitive attributes, providing a basis for the extensive surveys and systematic conservation of traditional villages.
