Abstract: As an important component of rural areas, rural public space has become a hot topic in the new era with the promotion of rural revitalization strategy. On the basis of a comprehensive study of multiple disciplines, we analyze the current situation in terms of concept definition, transmutation history, connotation characteristics and type classification, summarize the research genealogy based on the research results of socio-economic, landscape ecology, geographical planning, physical space and quantitative analysis dimensions, and then discover the dilemma of rural public space, summarize the multidisciplinary reconstruction path and propose a multidisciplinary collaborative development framework. By systematically sorting out the research content of domestic rural public space in the past 20 years, we improve the shortcomings of single-disciplinary research and help understand the value of rural public space. The current research on rural public space urgently needs to break through academic barriers, integrate research and judgment from various fields, and uncover emerging development paths with Chinese vernacular characteristics.
